Sony is stupid, They say the xperia was mainly designed for the NA market and then release early to Europe. They US prob wont get this till 2009.

Maybe the europen versions will work in NA with 3g and everything? but if its $1000 unlocked, its not worth it.

this is not good news, it almost guarantees it will be in 2009

"will confirm the USA Xperia X1 plan on November 3rd"

They are not releasing the phone on the 3rd, they will release the "plan"

First of all, hi everybody. Been browsing for a while, finally decided to sign up.

My contract with Sprint is ending in Nov, and I was hoping the the Xperia would release by then. I am assuming it'll come to AT&T, so my plan is to switch over for this phone! Well that, coupled with the fact that Sprint keeps on dropping my calls and service seems to be getting worse and worse. So I really want to see this phone make it before December. Hopefully SE hears our cries and releases it before it's too late and I go with a competitor.

BTW, I think the Xperia may be the sickest looking, most functional, badass phone I've even seen. I can't wait to get my hands on it and try it out. The panels and everything are just way to sick.

The US version does have a different version of the Qualcomm chipset. The chipset on the US version has some patent infringing video compression technology removed (hence the inferior video recording specs on the US version). Be that as it may however, they still have had months and months time to prepare. This should not delay one of their largest markets.

I hope that the X1 will allow for upgrading to Windows Mobile 7 when it releases in 09.

My speculation is that in North America, the phones will all come carrier locked, creating delays with negotations of pricing, software changes and all the other ridiculous things North American phone companies do to the hardware they sell, where as in the UK they're being sold by SE or other distributers, but not necessarily as a carrier locked phone. There's also the issue of the camera... modem... etc...
I just hope it comes soon... or I'll just buy the UK verson online... if it's not a grand.

In Sweden you can buy it for 6000 SEK and it's not carrier locked. Don't know about your exchange rates, but I think you can make your own calculations ;-)
