I tried using the HTC Touch Pro and a similar thing happened. I thought it was because Sprint (that's where I went to test it out) had configured the phone somehow to only pickup the "mobile web". So I was quite surprised that with an unlocked X1 you were still getting the same problem.

I am in a similar boat as you temp because my last PDA was an iPAQ 4700 and I was accustomed to using Wifi and Pocket IE (as basic as it was) to get full web pages. So when I saw that I could only get the "mobile web", I was pretty shocked that this was what people got so excited about.

I do not know if trying another browser like Welcome to Skyfire! would do the trick, since I don't have any device to try it on. But I do hope someone can find a solution to allowing Opera 9.x to pickup the "full internet" by default and not the mobile web.

Sorry I'll try to explain again because I don't think you understand. There is no such thing as the "mobile web". Some websites have 2 versions, one with the prefix www. the other with m. you can access both of these from your desktop or your mobile. Its the same network. Look at this for example m.google.com this is the mobile version of google, you can access this from your computer, PDA, Mobile or whatever. Now having this come up by default has nothing to do with the phone or browser. These sites automatically detect where your ip is coming from, either Broadband, Dial up, 3G or whatever and load the version it thinks you need. Now I'm sure you can get a plugin for your browser to only access the desktop (www) version of the site, though since I don't have my X1 yet I can't help you with that. Try looking up a plugin for Opera. I'm sure I or someone could find it for you, but sometimes you just need to do a bit of searching yourself.

How can it be IP-depending if I get mobile sites when using WLAN at home?

My experience sais that it's browser-dependent. You can turn off "Mobile view" in Opera, but websites like YouTube always displays in mobile-version. Pages like google.com gives you the option to go into "Classic mode" if you'd like that.
I've tried HSDPA, of if it was GPRS, but I think that WLAN is tremendously faster comparing those two. I wouldn't look at ordinary computer-like webpages if I didn't have WLAN or a great 3G connection.

Because WLAN doesn't use HSPA, it uses your home internet. The sites can tell if your using a HSPA or Broadband. It can also tell if your using a Mobile.

These websites knows that you're using your mobile to view them through User-Agent (data about your "environment" such as Platform, OS, Browser, Language etc.) that your browser send to them together with request protocal for content of the webpage.

These are standards for the HTTP Protocal, but you can fool them via plugins/addons attach to your browser.
I doubt that there are such program out there for uses with Opera...

But it's the USER who should be able to CHOOSE!
Why somebody else decides for me!!!!
I have a great screen and decent device but I'm forced to watch these dumb mobile sites with limited capabilities! SH..T! So what's the point of having these advanced browsers and buy a phone for 700 Euro??!! To see crappy things I'd see on any other device?? C'mon!
So it should be to decide for users if they have a very costly internet.
Also, to that purpose you have OperaMini which saves data a lot, it compresses sites.

Go to Opera settings and turn "Mobile View" off, haven't tried it on a lot of sites but it should do the trick.

^^^ No, that's absolutely different thing.
"mobile view" makes the site redesign/convert to mobile view , usually cuts it vertically so you scroll down but you don't have to do it left/right. That means your device does that/browser.
The problem mentioned above is that many sites today recognize somehow your device as mobile and immediatley redirects you to the mobile site.
On some sites there's a choice whether you want it or not, but some just redirects you and that's it.
I think this should be user-controlled, not just default!

Yes, doministry, it would be great if someone does find a way for the user to choose, whether it be by plugin or registry edit or something. Cause I do agree that some of us, who are buying X1s for example, are spending more money on a phone than some people spend on laptops and we are getting this "reduced version" of web pages is quite a pain.

I know that WLAN doesn't use HSPA unless you use a phone as a modem... However, my point is that it doesn't HAVE to be IP-depending, it can also be (and IMO most efficient) be browser/device-depending.
