Default How Much data do I need?

Hey y'all...a newbie here!

I'm contemplating on buying a SEX1a post x-mas...I currently have a data plan of 6gb/mo but I may change my phone plan and will end up with about 500mb/mo.

Will 500 mb enough for constant web page viewing/e-mail/youtube/instant messaging/gps?

I currently have a blackberry but there was limited offer for the 6gb data plan because I planned to get an xperia when I signed up for this plan.

Thanks!

youtube and gmaps (if you by gps mean with online maps)

read somewhere how many youtube clips one could get with 300MB and it was not many at all

Thanks!
I think I'll switch to the 500mb package....it'll save me $15/mo...more money saved for the X1

Now I pray for a price drop (fingers crossed)

500mb is not a lot, but you can always rely on Wifi

Better check whether for that 500mb/mo, do they put a daily cap after which they start charging you. And if there is a daily cap, you probably won't be able to carry over unused MB to the next day.

These are sneaky little ways networks nickle and dime you to death.

True that..that's a good point. I'll make sure to ask.

Any feedback on how much data they've used in a so far?

I'd like to know a monthly estimate but I'm not too sure if anyone has had the phone for that long lol.

I have had estimated a 10 min walking session with Google Maps consumed over 20mb of map updates with Satellite photos.

Youtube will consume even more, depending on the size and length of the videos you are watching. 5-10Mb per video is not uncommon, and many are larger than that. With Youtube now pushing for widescreen videos, you can bet the data requirements to be even higher.

That may be not exactly the perfect example,
However - on my SE P1i 500MB a month is OK.
The difference is - I don't watch so much YouTube.
Also, what eats REALLY a lot of data is Opera 9.5. That's why it's better to rely on some cases on Opera Mini, which is also superb.
With a normal usage with some videos and stuff upload, I think that with the device like X1 few GB would be necessary.
That's why they give free 5GB a month to iPhones here.
