Default Panel page @ sonyericsson.com

Sony has updated their X1 product page with a new page. It doesn't tell us anything new, but it's worth checking it out. It seems as if SE wants as many people possible to develop new panels, because they are even promoting the panel SDK on the new page...

They will need the panels from third party developers. The iphone would only be half as cool without the apps store.

And I need an application/panel to create and manage profiles - something windows mobile is unable to do.

Probably a topic that has been beaten to death - what's the big deal about profiles?
Isn't silent mode good enough?

OK, even if Carlin will throw old socks at me, a short reply from the view of a stressed and unfortunately really mobile phone dependend architect.

There is nothing worse than discovering you missed a ton of important and often urgent calls while on a construction site because the damned thing was too silent. Equally bad is being in a meeting (ideally with the client and a bunch of contractors and engineers) and suddenly your phone is blaring because your daughter wants to go to a friend. Or the other way round, you are in the meeting with a silenced phone and a teacher tries to reach you because the daughter has suddenly fallen ill.

With profiles and contact groups these things do not happen that often or not at all. I know of a few windows mobile programs which even enable you to combine contacts with certain profiles. Example: the meeting profile only lets pass the teacher, all other calls get directly to the mailbox.

Contact grouping and profiles make daily life easier - at least for me

But I'm in a meeting and not to be disturbed, that's why it is in silent mode. I can follow-up after the meeting. At the least, I could have vibration mode on, and take a peep during a break in the meeting, and then decide whether it is important enough to excuse myself from the proceeding. That's the whole point isn't it?

Somehow, having a mobile phone ties in with some sort of expectation of immediacy of contact. I refuse to be tied down to technology that way. I have tried to play with profiles and different ringtones for different groups of people, but always forget which is for who after the 2nd one. :P

While I understand the scenarios above, I always think there are other ways of doing things without further complicating things.

Socks are now armed and ready to fly!

Seriously, the profiles is like any other feature - some use it, and some don't. I've only used mine once or twice, but I'm not the person that receives calls from many people.

Anyway, that's my off topic post

Well, to end my story, in the end I only assigned one person with a special ringtone - my boss.

Everyone else I don't mind receiving a call from
