Sony Ericsson Officially Announces US XPERIA X1 Launch - November 28

Sony Ericsson has finally confirmed that the US version of the XPERIA X1 (X1a) is officially coming out though Sony Electronics and authorized retailers on November 28, "Black Friday." The phone will be sold unlocked for $799.99. Pre-orders through Sony Style will start tomorrow, November 13.

Ha', with that price, they'll be lucky to push 10,000 units here iN the US (compared to the price of the iPhone, G1, and Pro)! They must want $100 dollars for every month we had to wait! Why Sony? iF iDo get this sometime next month, iT'll be the "only" thing iGet myself for X-mas. Pick this one up AT&T/T-Mobile...

I'm going to wait a year or a few years until it's at least $399 or if it's picked up by AT&T AT THE MOST!

I love this phone, I won't lie. But I have to see my wallet and plan my future with that kind of money too.

Jesus! I can pay off a semester with that much at a community college! (Which I'm currently enrolled in...)

Out of interest, how much is an HTC Touch Pro unlocked in the States?

For comparison, in the UK a Touch Pro is £479.99 (RRP £549.99) from play.com and the X1 is also £479.99 (RRP £599.99).

You can get an X1 for free on a £45/month contract (18months)
You can get a G1 for free on a £40/month contract (18months)
You can get an 8GB iPhone for free on a £45/month contract (18months)
(couldn't find a Touch Pro on contract unfortunately)

So in real terms the prices are very similar.

Maybe the way to do this is to become a new subscriber and buy a heavily subsidized phone, move the sim to the x1, and then sell the subsidized phone on ebay to recoup some of the x1 cost. Any reason this wouldn't work?

That should work. The HTC Fuze is probably a good choice, which is only about $299.99 subsidized . You should be able to sell it for $500, giving you $200 off the X1a.
