does anyone know if gps operates without a gprs or data connection, i was planning on installing tomtom 8 on this device, can someone give more details ?

yes it does work without data connection. A-GPS is just more accurate because it also use your cellphone carrier network to pinpoint your exact location

A-GPS is just using the mobile phone masts to help speed up locating your initial position, apparantly they also hold data regarding the positions of the GPS satelites and stuff, it is all to do with a US law that required mobile phones to be able to give their positions to emergency services.

Not sure how it works in the UK hopefully the same.

But as amazin has said, it will still work with out it, just take longer to get your initial position
