Default Q: UK and US Version

Does anyone know the difference between the UK and US version of the xperia x1 phone besides the video recording?
I was planning on getting a UK version since its coming out earlier and was wondering if it would work in the US fine or will there be problems?

Yes there are 2 differences that I know of:

1. the US version can only record video at QVGA at a slower frame rate. UK version has VGA at 30 FPS.
2. the Xperia has 2 versions, X1a and X1i. Both have tri-band HSPA. The US version (X1a) should have the 850/1900/2100 MHz. And the international version (X1i) should have the 900/1900/2100 Mhz. Both versions are quad band EDGE. In the US, we have 850 and 1900, under AT&T. What this means (and i could be mistaken) is you'd get normal phone and EDGE reception. BUT, when you use the fast internet, 3G, you'd only be supported in areas where there are 1900Mhz. This might not be an issue depending on where you live.

For myself, I am going to take a leap and go with the UK version because I mainly use EDGE to keep my battery alive longer and only hop on the 3G when I need to. So it shouldn't be a big deal.

Just my $0.02.

I totally agree, 30fps video recording is very important to me, and I don't have a dedicated data plan so I won't need 3g anytime soon.

seems silly that they are going to have diff video settings for diff countries, I understand the triband problem, originally it was going to be quadband... wonder why they aren't doing that anymore

SE product/whitepaper page, check the US page and then the UK/EU pages.

It's been posted here before as well about the differences.

From Canada, it's the same 3G as the US's ?

So it's still 30fps vs 3G ? =(

"According to a Sony Ericsson rep at the CTIA Wireless trade show today, the X1 will not have separate European and US hardware versions, so the UK model will work well in the US. Therefore, we expect that specialty importers like Dynamism.com will start selling the Xperia X1 to US customers on, well, September 30."

That is really annoying that it is not quad band 3G.
Interesting that Dynamism has it posted as HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 and Mobileplanet has all four: UMTS 850/900/1700/1900/2100

Has anybody used a 1900 only phone on US 3G? Based on coverage areas, it looks like it should be fine for most areas. http://cellularmap.net/att_850_1900.shtml

or maybe it is worth switching to t-mobile to be on all 3G 1900?

anybody have any thoughts?
