This has been covered in depth in the past, but the main problem is that you won't get any 3G reception in Canada (or very little). If that doesn't matter, then go for it. but it's probably a lot more expensive because of the exchange rate with the GBP.

And why can't you get one from the states?

Phone does not come back from standby/sleep mode at least twice per day( the keyboard lights up, though);

I have found this problem with my X1i!

^^^ There is a parameter that lets you bring the X1 out of sleep mode only by pressing the power button or pressing any key. You may have inadvertently set this to power button only.

I do have it set to power button only - but there are times when pressing the power button the X1 just refuses to do anything! Not done it for a while though touch wood!

I've got my XPERIA yesterday! Great phone! works very fine with no problems till tonight.My first impression for surfing is that Opera is much much better browser than IE.

Wow - just got mine - set up with Microsoft office at home and synced great with Vista 64 Ultimate - so easy. God I love this phone
