How to format/restore to vodafone x1 to factory settings

Hello, this is my first winmo and high end "branded" phone. I was just wondering if anyone knew how i would go about formatting the phone or restoring to factory settings. Has anyone with a Vodafone x1 tried to use the SE software update utility? I was just wondering what would happen if i did that and if i would brick my phone. I would preferably like to have the google panel instead of the vodafone. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks
