| Hi all, I thought I'd share my experience as it's taken me FOUR tries before finding competent X1 supplier. plemix - I found them on ebay; they also have a standalone site - Tuesday 10/28 - I placed an order with them via ebay. Their ebay listing said "now in stock and ready to ship". They then emailed me that there was a "manufacturer's delay" and that they had none in stock (contrary to the claim in their ebay listing). I cancelled with them and they promptly refunded me via paypal. welectronics (an advertiser on this site) - Tuesday 10/28 - After the Plemix miscarriage, I called welectronics and they said that they didn't have any X1's in stock, but that they would "sometime soon". I got a bad vibe from the call. cellgsmphone2 aka cellgsmphones (ebay seller - 2 diff profiles?) - Tuesday 10/28 - I called the seller using the # provided on his ebay listing. He was very clear and sounded trustworthy. He claimed that he had just shipped 20-somthing X1's out that day and was sold out. He also claimed that he had 40+ additional X1's coming from the warehouse the next day. He said that 22 of those 40+ phones were presold, "So order fast!" I placed an order with him via ebay/paypal. - Wednesday 10/29 - I got an email from cellgsmphones (aka Peter Kiforishin) stating that "the warehouse jusr raised their prices due to extremely high demand". He ASKED ME FOR ANOTHER $100!!! I promtly cancelled and he refunded me via paypal. UGH! This guy has high ratings on ebay, so I was really surprised by this scammy behavior. CellHut.com (found via paid ads on Google when Googling the term X1) - Wednesday 10/29 - I checked out this seller's website, which looks fairly legit. I had also heard of them before. Even though their ranking on resellerratings.com is quite low, I decided to give them a call. They said that they didn't have any in stock, but assured me they'd have it by Monday11/3. For some crazy reason, I decided to take a leap of faith and I ordered via their website. - Monday 11/3 - I called CellHut and asked them for an update/ETA on the X1, and they said it would be December at the earliest. I almost soiled myself. I cancelled the order. Google checkout reflected that my card hadn't been charged and that they indeed cancelled the order per my request. - Monday 11/3 - I pout and pout. networkingrus (found on ebay, they also have a standalone site, and I see now that they're also advertizing on this site) - Monday 11/3 - I checked out their ebay listing, which hadn't turned up in my previous X1 searches. Their listing notes "in stock - ships same day" (paraphrased). I call them, and instead of asking "do you have the X1 in stock," I decided to be tricky and asked "when do you think you'll be getting the X1 in stock?" The gentleman said that they had a supply of black X1's on-hand. I promptly placed an order via their site. - Tuesday 11/4 - Returned from voting at around 2 and checked my email. Voila - a Fedex shipping notification and Tracking #. I run to the bathroom to clean out my underwear and collect myself. OK, I know it's a bit dramatic, but after news of X1 parts shortages, I thought I might not have one of these babies until January. I can only hope now that the real thing shows up tomorrow, and not a box of rocks. I'm going to try to have faith. Will post an update tomorrow to confirm that the real thing shows up. I'm in NYC, BTW. If anyone else has success (or scam) stories to share with future X1 owners, please add them to this thread. We've gotta look out for one another! -Peace Last edited by rickgnyc : 11-04-2008 at 02:19 PM. |
