I went and bought a G1 with T-mobile today. It's an excellent phone. I will never forget how badly Sony let me down by completely forgetting about the United States (AGAIN). This was supposed to be the phone that marked their reintroduction to the United States. If anyone else remembers the press conference for this phone's announcement, they promised the United States would not be disappointed and this phone was meant to bring them back in the US and regain them territory. It's too late for many people now, including myself. I'm very satisfied with my new black G1. I have 14 days to return it with a $5 restocking fee just in case Sony announces the X1 for the US. I doubt i'll return it though, as my G1 works with T-mobile 3G, something the X1 wouldn't do.

Both HK and Singapore have very strong GPRS, 3G and HSPA access, mainly because they are both small countries, high population and commercial densities, and very competitive TelCos at play (Singapore Telecoms, PCCW, etc.), and they follow EU/international GSM guidelines very closely. So the latest phones almost always appear in these 2 countries very early.

*sigh* I wish I lived in Hong Kong then. T-mobile 3G has no support for the X1, as the X1 lacks the necessary 1700mhz band, used for T-mo 3G. I did a lot of research before I went with the G1, and to my disappointment, realized I couldn't use 3G if I got the X1. I still wish the best for all X1 owners though. It is a great phone, I just got sick of the delays.
