Default FM Transmitter?

Hello all,

I read on this website that the Xperia will be coming with an FM transmitter?? I doubt this is true, as this is the only place that I've seen this, which sucks. I feel that the only way I could justify spending that much money (1000$ish, supposedly) on a phone if it were to completely replace my mp3 player.

Being a music addict, I carry my mp3 player around everywhere I travel, whether it be across the country or on the drive to work. But having this massive music capability with the phone is nearly useless if you can't even play it in the car. I understand that you can probably stereo bluetooth to your car (hopefully?), but MOST cars do not have bluetooth capabilities.

Also, if it doesn't come with a built-in FM transmitter, could you use the aftermarket one for the Walkman phone?

Can anyone confirm/disprove anything I've said here?

Thanks alot,
Matt

I think it may have been a typo. Maybe they were thinking FM receiver instead. Also i don't think you would be able to use that particular FM transmitter on that web page, because the only port I know the xperia will have is the mini usb port (I could be wrong on the name). but I'm sure you could buy a transmitter that plugs directly into the 3.5mm headphone jack and listen to music through that. Also, stereo bluetooth or A2DP is really up to the manufacturer of the car, this is an option which most luxury cars have, I don't know of any add- ons that would give your car a2dp atm.

Why can't you use an external transmitter like most players would do. It's not as convenient as being built-in, but, it woks.

HI WHYBE,

I'm sure this thread started with a typo. The Xperia will have FM eceiver but not transmiter. It wouldn't work for me anyway I live in a Metroplitan area and all the FM frequencies are taken

Every device (GPS, MP3 etc) with FM transmitter that I tried in my car works only spotty.

I think the use of radio depends on where in the world you're at. I use the radio a lot in certain countries, but hardly ever if I'm in the US or Canada. There are places on earth with good stations, even under conglomerate ownership.

I just wanted to say that I sympathize with the original poster -- the only way I can justify that price tag, is if a phone replaced my mp3 player, pocket radio, phone, camera, a laptop for holiday use, plus new features I otherwise wouldn't have had I can justify $850, but $1000+ opens up a lot of choices.
