Default How to get insurance

So if you dont purchase from a retailer like best buy (for instance if you get one from ebay) what is the best way to insure it? When I was with sprint I insured my Mogul with accidental coverage for $6/mo and the peace of mind it gave was great. I know that some home owner's insurace packages and such allow you to insure items like that but I dont have any insurance like that as I am still a dependent of my parents. Is there a good place to pay for insurance of this sort? Is anyone else doing so?

I pay 100 per year for 4k worth of renters insurance. it covers accidental damage, when things get stolen, etc. a fat guy cracked the screen of my lappy about a month ago, i got a repair estimate for $960, they cashed me out for $1032.

Renters insurance for the win.

Thanks for the suggestions. That renters insurance sounds great. Is that covering everything in your home? Or did you purchase it just for your electronics? What company if you dont mind my asking?

My insurance is with NSSI, but I imagine that there are a lot of options when it comes to renters insurance. That Square Trade site looks pretty legit as well.

I did look at square trade. Only problem there is that they dont look like the offer accidental coverage. Especially if the item is bought on ebay. Even for store bought items though.. Unless I am not looking in the right place.

WHAT IS COVERED:
Mechanical and electrical failures that occur during normal use of your item. Your item is covered for up to the full purchase price of your item (tax and shipping are excluded).
Some examples of covered issues include computer hard drive failures, iPod batteries that stop charging, cell phone keypads that get stuck, and digital camera sensor failures.
If Accidental Damage from Handling (ADH) Protection was purchased, the Service Agreement expands to include damage from liquid spills, item drops, or any other accidental damage. ADH coverage begins 30 days after purchase, and does not cover willful damage, negligent use, theft or loss. A $50 deductible applies on ADH-related claims. ADH is not offered on all items.

so by default it covers normal wear and tear, but incase of weird things, they make you get that coverage separately. Renters insurance has worked out very well with me, but I don't know what it's like for anyone but NSSI, I was surprised when I was told that they covered accidental damage.

I wouldn't go with squaretrade as they no longer offer any accidental protection for any phone no matter where you purchase it from. Your best bet would be to either put it on your home owners insurance, or buy the standard extended warranty form squaretrade which is as good if not worse than the manufacture's warranty.
