Wondering why it is taking so long for Sony Ericsson (SE) to get the XPERIA X1 to your hands? It seems like SE and HTC, hardware maker of the X1, are having problems with the delivery of third party components. Due to a shortage of these components, HTC can’t produce enough X1’s as it should. The bad news is, the delay could go on for several weeks…

I still remember in the very beginning phase we a little bit (did) disclose our panel concept to Microsoft, and (the) first reaction from Microsoft was ‘no, no, no! Please stay Microsoft way, Windows way.’ But we showed the panel application, then Microsoft top management suddenly (changed to): ‘yes, OK, you should do that’.
This is not a new article, but interesting.

Early adopters of Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 on some countries will get a 4GB memory card after registering their phones. The memory card will contain the movie Hancock, which will appear on DVD in late November.
We can only hope that other divisions of Sony Ericsson will have a similar promotion.

It seems like Sony Ericsson and Saab is teaming up to add wireless mobile access to control seats, doors, rear compartment, and lighting on the upcoming Saab 9-X Air. According to the press release:
Some of the car features will be remotely controlled by the Sony Ericsson Xperia™ X1, providing a premium mobile user experience through its unique customisable touchscreen panels:
- Control ambient lightning
- Control front and rear seat settings
- Lock the car
- Open the rear compartment
- Switch on and off the lights (blinkers, main lights…)
This is great news! I believe this is an excellent example of the XPERIA X1’s Panels at work as it provides a customized view for specific applications, in this case controlling the Saab 9-X Air.
Sam and Magnus released this information earlier today:
- X1a / X1i differences: The X1a will be sold in the US, Latin America and Australia it differs from the X1i in its network configuration and the video support (it is 24 fps instead of 30). Contrary to some rumors, both versions have a front facing camera.
- Keyboard layouts: A few people picked up on the fact that the X1 product site features two different keyboard layouts – this is due to regional differences. England uses Qwerty – EN, France uses Azerty, Germany uses Qwertz etc…
- Screen Orientation: there is no button officially assigned to change the screen orientation but it is possible to assign one of the soft keys to do this is you want to.
- SAR value: Venus max SAR value (of use case of UMTS+ BT turned on) is 1.47w/kg.
- US release date: This will be announced by Sony Ericsson US on Nov 3rd.

For those who missed it, here’s the second part of the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 Webcast. I came in a bit late and missed the first part where they talked about Johnny X. In any case, they did mention that the full webcast video will be available on the 17th. Enjoy.

There is still no exact date but Daniel Ljunggren, Sony Ericsson head of XPERIA product management, showed some slides at the company’s Capital Markets Day mentioning that the XPERIA X1 is coming out Q4 2008. This is at least a more official statement than the one we got from Handango. Lets just hope that Q4 means October and not December.
In the presentation, one slide mentions one of the two X1 models, the X1a. Another slide defines the Panels philosophy:
